12 Arab countries announce the first day of Eid al-Fitr


12 Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the Emirates, Lebanon and Iraq, announced that tomorrow, Wednesday, is the first day of Eid al-Fitr after the crescent of Shawwal could not be seen.

The Saudi Royal Court said that the Supreme Court decided that Tuesday is the thirtieth of the month of Ramadan, and that Wednesday is the first day of Eid.

The crescent sighting committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in Qatar, the Sharia Sighting Authority in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the committee charged with investigating the sighting of the Shawwal crescent in the Emirates also announced.

The Iraqi Sunni Endowment Office and the Kurdistan Region announced that Wednesday is the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

The Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, issued a statement, saying, “We have not confirmed the sighting of the crescent of Shawwal, and therefore Tuesday, March 9, is the day that completes the thirty days of the blessed month of Ramadan.”

Egypt and the UAE also announced that Wednesday is the first day of Eid al-Fitr, and Kuwait, Bahrain and Sudan also announced that Wednesday is the first day of Eid al-Fitr, according to separate statements issued by the Sharia Vision Boards in the two Gulf countries, and the Islamic Jurisprudence Council in Sudan.

In addition, Palestine, Yemen, Tunisia and Algeria said that Wednesday is the first Eid al-Fitr, according to a televised speech by the Mufti of the Palestinian territories, Muhammad Hussein, and the Tunisian Republic, Hisham bin Mahmoud, and a statement from the Yemeni Ministry of Endowments.

As for Türkiye, which relies on astronomical calculations, the Presidency of Religious Affairs determined that Wednesday is officially the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

The month of Ramadan began on Monday, March 11, in 17 Arab and Islamic countries, including Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Palestine, while it began on March 12 in 4 countries, namely the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan, Morocco, and Libya, due to the inability to see the crescent moon there.
