Achieving a ceasefire in Gaza is currently in the hands of Hamas

The White House announced on Monday that the Hamas movement currently bears responsibility for making a decision on a ceasefire in Gaza, after negotiators made a proposal regarding that.

White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said: “At the end of the weekend, an offer was made to Hamas, and now it is up to Hamas to make the decision.”

A Hamas official denied any progress in the ongoing negotiations in Egypt regarding the truce in the Gaza Strip, stressing that “there is no change in the occupation’s position and therefore there is nothing new in the Cairo talks.”

It is noteworthy that the ongoing negotiations in Cairo were attended by delegations from Israel, Qatar, and the United States, and a high-level Egyptian source explained that the round of negotiations is witnessing great progress in bringing viewpoints closer together.

The Israeli army continues to bomb various areas in the Gaza Strip, causing massive destruction and a high death toll, despite the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. (RT)
