No progress was made in the Cairo talks. This was revealed by a Hamas official

A Hamas official confirmed on Monday that no progress has been made so far in the ceasefire talks in Cairo.

The Hamas official told Reuters that no progress had been made in the round of ceasefire talks that took place in Cairo and in which delegations from Qatar, the United States and Israel participated.

This statement from the Hamas official contradicts previous reports regarding progress in the talks aimed at concluding a truce in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Later, an Israeli official reduced the chances of reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip currently.

On Monday morning, the Egyptian Cairo News Channel quoted a high-ranking Egyptian source as saying that the talks in Cairo had achieved progress and that all parties had agreed on the basic points.

Israel expressed cautious optimism about the latest round of mediated negotiations.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz described the Cairo talks as the closest agreement the two sides have reached since the November truce, under which Hamas released dozens of detainees.

“We have reached a critical point in the negotiations,” Katz told Israeli Army Radio. If we succeed, a large number of hostages will return home.”

Cairo News said that the delegations of Hamas and Qatar left Cairo and will return within two days to agree on the terms of the final agreement, while the Israeli and American delegations will leave the Egyptian capital within a few hours, adding that consultations will continue during the next two days.
