After his martyrdom in the hospital, Israel detains Daqqa’s body and prevents a funeral for him

The Israeli occupation police prevented the family of Walid Daqqa in the town of Baqa al-Gharbiya from opening a funeral home. The police also refused to release his body, after he was martyred on Sunday evening in Assaf Harofeh Hospital. The family confirmed that the occupation forces “are trying to prevent us from opening a funeral tent and prevent us from placing Chairs, and so far refuse to release the martyr’s body.”

For her part, lawyer Nadia Daqqa said, “The release of the body belongs to the Minister of Internal Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, and it was stated during a conversation between the mayor of Baqa al-Gharbiya with the police that there are no orders to release the body of the captive Walid Daqqa.”

In a related context, the Communist Party and the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality issued a statement accusing the Israeli occupation government of responsibility for the martyrdom of Daqqa. The statement stated that the occupation authorities are pursuing “a policy of medical negligence as a tool to abuse Palestinian prisoners, in addition to the harsh, inhuman prison conditions that are contrary to international law.” (The New Arab)
