Aouni argued with my forces about it.. Will the meetings with Bkerke fall into the trap of bidding?!

It is true that the Christian dialogue on the “Bkerke Document” has so far been limited to a meeting that appeared to be an “orphan,” and was boycotted by the “Marada Movement,” but no announcement of its cessation or freezing occurred. Rather, what is being circulated is that new meetings will be scheduled after the holidays to complete the discussion on the terms and conditions. The document, the draft of which was leaked, and that what was delaying its holding was nothing but the “holiday holiday,” especially the glorious Easter holiday among the Christian sects that follow the Western calendar.

However, this “opportunity” that the holiday holiday granted for Christian dialogue did not seem to be in its favor. On the contrary, it opened the door to a “renewed tension” between the “Free Patriotic Movement” and the “Lebanese Forces”, regarding the essence of the existing dialogue, which was initiated by the head of the “Free Patriotic Movement” and the “Lebanese Forces”. Forces” Samir Geagea, suggesting that the meetings in Bkerke would be merely “cooking with gravel,” indicating that he did not anticipate any “usefulness” from them, but rather placed his participation in them in the category “for the sake of the church.”

The “Movement” quickly responded to Geagea, albeit without naming him, in the statement it issued after the regular meeting of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc, where it not only reiterated its support for Christian dialogue, but also denounced speech that cast doubt on the feasibility of dialogue, “because it is offensive.” For the Maronite Patriarchate, for the participating parties, and for existential issues,” as he put it. Did the meetings with Bkerke practically fall into the trap of “outbidding” in one way or another, which is feared to lead to their miscarriage again?!

The “current” is open?!

As for the “Free Patriotic Movement,” the Christian dialogue has not ended, and indeed it cannot end, because it is more than a need and a necessity in light of the current circumstances, especially at the level of the Christian role and partnership in the state, which are the matters that the Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rai mainly focused on in The Easter sermon, which is supposed to mean all Christian and national forces, especially since the country is based on this partnership, which must not be overlooked under any circumstances.

The “current” circles confirm that the latter wants this dialogue to succeed, and is striving for that, and therefore it cannot neglect it, nor doubt its feasibility, knowing that the “current” demand put forward by former Minister Gebran Bassil was to go to a dialogue at the highest levels, between the poles themselves. , to discuss various existential and problematic issues, but the current dialogue remains “the best possible” at the present time, given the reservations and objections of some forces.

Hence, the “current” circles stress that any positions that reject dialogue, or question its feasibility, constitute an “insult” to the Maronite Patriarchate, and even to the existential issues on the agenda of the dialogue, indicating that they are surprised by the position of the head of the “Forces” Party in this regard, and do not Especially since the latter presents himself as a “protector of Christians,” which is not reflected in his recent position, nor is his performance in the presidential election file, which rejects any understanding that leads to the election of a president.

“Forces”: The problem is in Bassil!

On the other hand, those affiliated with the “Forces” refuse to comment on the words of the “current” circles, which are consistent with what was stated in the statement of the “Strong Lebanon” bloc meeting, which they place in the category of “Christian bidding” at which former Minister Gebran Bassil is trying to “knock on the door.” Perhaps they will succeed in giving him some of the respect and prestige that he has lost recently, stressing that the “Forces” are not the ones who put their personal interests ahead of the issues of Christians, so that they are “accused” of insulting them.

Supporters of the “Forces” point of view point out that the party leader did not say that he does not believe in Christian dialogue or reject it, but all he said was that he doubted its feasibility, and that is because he considers that the problem lies with Basil specifically, based on the “bitter” experience with him since the days of the understanding. Maarab, who hit him against the wall, all the way to the “intersection” that finally won the nomination of former Minister Jihad Azour, and whom Basil does not hesitate to show his readiness to “turn against” at any moment.

They say that the first session held in Bkerke under the title “Christian Dialogue” clearly showed that nothing in the performance had changed, which was evident in the discussion about “Hezbollah’s” weapons, which was confirmed by the fact that Bassil’s “turn” was nothing but Rejecting the party’s nomination of the head of the “Marada Movement,” Suleiman Franjieh, and that he will not hesitate to return to “the party’s embrace,” as soon as the latter abandons Franjieh, which essentially empties the dialogue of its content, in their opinion.

Regardless of whether the meetings in Bkerke continue or not, what is certain, according to those in the know, is that the conflict between the “forces” and the “movement” constitutes, in some place, one of the aspects of the “crisis” facing Christians. If their disagreement is a “democratic matter,” which may represent a “blessing” and not a “curse” in the general context, the fundamental problem remains their inability to overcome differences for the sake of what are described as existential issues, even if the presidential vacuum lasts for, for example, months, or even many years!
