The President of Cyprus is in Lebanon on Monday and a conference on the displaced will be held at the end of May, and Hezbollah is not afraid of threats

It has become certain that there will be no imminent visit by American mediator Amos Hockstein to Beirut, as no development has occurred that would require him to come. Israel is still continuing the war on Gaza and southern Lebanon, even though it considers that the return of the settlers from the north to their settlements must take place before next summer, and this means The country will be faced with one of two possibilities: either things will continue as they are, waiting for a solution to be found that leads to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and will affect Lebanon, or Israel will risk attacking Lebanon in an escalation that precedes the situation in the south, but this possibility remains small. Due to American considerations, Israel is obligated not to launch a war against Lebanon, despite all the threats.

The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, stressed that “the South Lebanon front will not stop unless the war on the Gaza Strip stops, and the threat of a comprehensive war on Lebanon did not stop the front, and all the pressures did not change our position.”

While the local and Arab media were preoccupied with the Iranian response to the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, political sources confirmed that Lebanon will not be concerned with the Iranian response to Israel, indicating that Tehran will not respond through Hezbollah, for many considerations related to the Lebanese structure, especially since there are Many political forces criticize the party’s intervention and call for the separation of the Lebanese front from Gaza, and therefore it can be said that “Hezbollah” will be outside the framework of the Iranian response to Israel, while the odds indicate that the Iranian response will be through the Houthis at the appropriate time or through factions. Another resistance. Therefore, the sources also believe that Hezbollah, for its part, has no intention of intervening, especially since it will not give the enemy any pretext to attack Lebanon and expand the scope of confrontations, and will not increase the tension on the internal front.

Sayyed Nasrallah had indicated that “Iran’s response to the targeting of its consulate in Damascus is definitely coming,” noting that “the nature of the Iranian response, its timing and its size will be decided by the Iranian administration and studied slowly… and the Israeli response to the Iranian response will determine what the next stage will be and must be prepared.” For all scenarios.

In addition, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, will arrive at the head of a ministerial delegation to Lebanon on an official visit next Monday, during which he will hold official talks with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, which will address bilateral relations between the two countries and common files. The relevant ministers of the two countries are participating in the talks. The Cypriot President will also visit Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. The visit lasts one day.
The visit of the President of Cyprus revolves around the issue of migrants, which began months ago when a ship containing Lebanese and Syrians arrived on the Cypriot shores and entered territorial waters surreptitiously. At that time, communication took place between the Lebanese and Cypriot authorities.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati had made the necessary contacts with the Cypriot authorities and stressed, “We are keen on maintaining the best relations with Cyprus and do not accept that we export the refugee crisis to it.” He stressed, “With regard to the issue of the displaced, we are facing a reality that the world must understand.” The displaced enter Lebanon secretly, and no country helps us control the borders. If we decide to deport the Syrian to his country, we face the issue of human rights, and as for the maritime borders, we are working to control them as much as we can.”

President Mikati hoped that Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides “would raise at the next meeting of European-Mediterranean countries the issue of pressure on the European Union to assist Lebanon in the process of deporting illegally displaced persons from Lebanon.”

According to the information, Cyprus had also contacted the European Union and the European Commission to request assistance, and to demand pressure on Lebanon to prevent migrant boats from leaving.

More than 600 people arrived in Cyprus last week, most of them Syrians, taking advantage of the mild weather, especially since the sea journey from Lebanon or Syria to Cyprus takes about 10 hours.
In the same context, on May 30, Brussels will host a ministerial conference on displaced Syrians in order to mobilize support for the Syrians in their country and the countries affected by the repercussions of the Syrian crisis, according to what the European Union spokesman said.
