Israeli sources described the discussions that took place between Israeli and Egyptian officials in Tel Aviv on Friday, regarding a prisoner exchange deal and a ceasefire in Gaza, as “positive,” pointing to an Egyptian pledge to put more pressure on Hamas to accept an agreement.

The Israeli “Wala” website reported that “Israel” made clear during its talks with the Egyptian intelligence delegation that it is ready to give a “last chance” to reach a deal regarding the detainees in Gaza, but if no progress occurs, it will go to an operation in Rafah.

The website quoted a senior Israeli official as saying that the talks with the Egyptians were good, stressing that “the Egyptians confirmed their intention to put pressure on Hamas, in order to reach an agreement.”

On Friday, an Egyptian intelligence delegation met with Israeli officials in Tel Aviv, as part of resuming efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and release detainees in the Gaza Strip.

Sources said that Egyptian, Israeli and American officials held direct and remote meetings last Wednesday, seeking concessions to break the deadlock in the negotiations that have been ongoing for months, to reach a truce in the war that broke out between the occupation and the Palestinian resistance on October 7.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth, the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, and the chief of staff of the Israeli occupation army, Herzi Halevy, visited Cairo, last Wednesday, and met with the head of Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, who presented a new proposal to reach a deal for the prisoners and end the war, consisting of three… Interconnected items.

Under the new proposal, Hamas demands the release of 50 detainees for every captured soldier, and 30 detainees for every civilian.

Under the first clause of the Egyptian vision, the newspaper indicated that the occupation must commit to stopping all preparations for the Rafah invasion.

As for the second clause, it stipulates the release of all Israeli prisoners in two stages, over a period of 10 weeks. The newspaper indicated that Cairo does not know the exact number of prisoners, but it said that this means the release of all prisoners, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian detainees.

The third clause stipulates a complete ceasefire for one year, during which the occupation and Hamas commit to not shooting or using weapons on the ground and in the air. He stated that declaring a ceasefire would mark the beginning of the steps towards establishing a Palestinian state.
