Israeli officials reported that the government discussed a new truce proposal yesterday, Thursday, which stipulates the release of prisoners, before the expected visit today by the Egyptian delegation.

20 prisoners
While a senior Israeli official revealed that the talks focused specifically on a proposal to initially release 20 prisoners who are considered “humanitarian” cases, according to what was reported by the “Wala” website.

This comes as international efforts concerned with the issue of the prisoners’ deal and the truce are racing against time to stop Israel’s determination to invade the southern city of Rafah, which is crowded with displaced Palestinian civilians.

Meanwhile, Ghazi Hamad, a member of the Hamas political bureau, confirmed to Agence France-Presse from Qatar that the possible Israeli military attack on Rafah will not achieve for Israel “what it wants.”

He also added, “We spoke to all parties related to the current conflict, whether brothers in Egypt, Qatar, or Arab and international parties, about the danger of invading Rafah, and we stressed that Israel is heading towards committing additional massacres and additional genocide.”
