Washington approves emergency military sales to Kiev

The US State Department has greenlit $138 million in emergency foreign military sales to Ukraine to provide critical repairs and parts for Kiev’s Hawk missile systems.

The United States announced the move on Tuesday, saying that Ukraine urgently needs maintenance support to keep the missile system running.

“Ukraine urgently needs to increase its capabilities to defend against Russian missile strikes and the air capabilities of Russian forces,” the State Department said in a memo detailing the deal.

The US Departments of State and Defense are looking for ways to continue providing support to Ukraine while the $60 billion aid package for Ukraine remains stalled in Congress.
