A cooperation agreement between Al-Hikmah University and Justice and Mercy University to promote the concepts of justice and human rights


The President of Al-Hikmah University, Professor George Nehme, and the President of the “Justice and Mercy” Association, Father Dr. Najib Baaklini, signed a cooperation agreement to work on research activities in the areas of promoting the concepts of justice, human rights, and combating torture. Under the agreement, students pursuing specializations related to legal studies will have the opportunity to conduct a training course for a period of no less than eight weeks, during which they will gain experience in the field of legal cases and enhance access to justice based on the work of the “Justice and Mercy” association with prisoners, drug users, people infected with AIDS, and refugees. .

The signing ceremony took place on the university’s main campus in Furn El Chebbak, in the presence of Professor Nehme, Father Baaklini, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Al-Hikma University, Dr. Shadi Saad, the Director of the University’s Legal Clinic, Professor Rina Sfeir, members of the Al-Hikma University Council, a number of professors from the Faculty of Law, and members of the “Justice and Mercy” Association.

In a speech by Professor Nehme, he expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian work the association is doing, stressing that society requires concerted efforts to overcome the challenges it faces. He said: “We are in a society that needs special care and we suffer from many problems. We are pleased to be partners to give priority to the human and social sense to achieve the public interest and achieve the required cultural, societal and national development.”

In turn, Father Baaklini thanked President Nehme for sponsoring cooperation with the association, stressing that “we would like to put all our scientific and humanitarian capabilities at the disposal of the person who suffers in our country from marginalization, exclusion, loss of true freedom and true democracy, in addition to his social and economic suffering.” He added: “Together, we would like to extend a hand to everyone to protect and establish human rights and to address societal issues. How urgently we need cooperation and solidarity through science, education, knowledge, experiences and tests to achieve more progress, growth and more sustainable development, which has become an urgent necessity in our afflicted and collapsed society.” All levels.” He said: “Today we renew our affiliation with humanity. Despite the tremendous progress in information and scientific discoveries, man remains the center of existence and his life, in the eyes of God, remains the first foundation.”

Dean Dr. Shadi Saad, in turn, emphasized the ambitious vision included in the college’s development plan, as he pointed out the main goals that included rebuilding the academic and administrative staff in addition to the academic amendments that came into effect in the bachelor’s program and those that will be included in the master’s programs, including strengthening cooperation with… Social entities with which we share the same humanitarian goals. He explained that the scheduled academic amendments aim to raise the college’s level to become the first choice for law students. He also stressed the importance of the agreement that was signed with the Justice and Mercy Association, as it came to renew the college’s commitment to combating torture and violence, providing assistance to those in need, and encouraging students to combine theoretical education with physical education. in the labor market and raising the status of their social service.

A speech was given by the Director of Projects at the Justice and Mercy Association, Dr. Lina Riachi, in which she spoke about the areas of the association’s work, including legal services for prison inmates, especially those who do not have the ability to hire lawyers, in addition to the psychological, social, and medical support departments.

In turn, Professor Rina Sfeir pointed out that cooperation with the Justice and Mercy Association will not be limited to the Faculty of Law, but rather it also aims to cooperate in the field of health services and achieve the involvement of students from the Faculty of Health, along with the Faculty of Law at Al-Sikma University, in the various activities of the association.
