Erdogan sends a message to Europe on its holiday.. What did he say?


Today, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a message to Europeans on the occasion of “Europe Day.”

Erdogan said, “The policies followed by some European institutions and countries in the context of the Gaza crisis, in which 35,000 Palestinians have been killed so far, including 15,000 children, have shaken confidence in European values.”

He added, “As long as the crises, conflicts and wars affecting Europe and our common geography are doomed to remain unresolved, skepticism about these values ​​will continue to increase.”

The Turkish President stressed that “in the current geopolitical circumstances, it has become more important than ever, for the future of our continent, for the European Union to pursue comprehensive, cooperative and fair policies in the broad European geography and the Mediterranean basin.”

He said, “At this critical juncture, where the expansion policy is gaining momentum, it is time for our country and the European Union to develop cooperation in all areas, including accession negotiations, which form the basis of their relations, and to put them on a more solid path and ground.”

Erdogan pointed out, “It is important for the European Union to manage its relations with our country with a fair, results-oriented approach, within the framework of the principle of (preserving agreements), and avoid policies and rhetoric that lead our relations to a dead end.”

He explained that “May 9, when the Schuman Declaration was published, which laid the foundations for European integration, has become viewed as “Europe Day” in our country since 1999, when the status of our candidacy for the European Union was registered,” noting that “Europe Day does not represent the beginning of “Not only the political and economic unity of Europe, but it also celebrates the peace and stability that have been the result of decades of joint effort.”

The Turkish President said, “Many challenges, such as wars, conflicts, terrorist acts, irregular migration, and climate change at the global level and in our region, threaten the system on the European continent as well as throughout the world.”

He pointed out that “the rise of Islamophobia, xenophobia, and racism across the European continent is one of the greatest sources of concern for our people and immigrants living in Europe.”

He continued: “Discrimination and hate crimes against the European Turkish community have become common day after day.”

Erdogan said: “In the face of exclusionary policies towards our country, which also negatively affect the European Union’s position as a global power, Turkey will not hesitate to exploit and develop its opportunities and strategic capabilities.”

Adding: “I mention once again that we, as Turkey, are ready to work together for a more prosperous, more united, and more open Europe in the future, where our country takes the position it deserves.” (Russia Today)
