A horrific crime shook Iraq, after news of the death of a young girl in Najaf spread, amid conflicting accounts about the causes. While her family claimed that stray dogs attacked her and tore apart her little body, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Medical Examinations revealed that the little Najaf girl was raped by her uncle, her mother’s brother, and added that the accused killed his sister’s daughter to hide his act.

Then a picture of the little girl was circulated on social media along with the details of the incident, with comments indicating that the killer had torn the little girl’s body apart with knives without mercy.

Some confirmed that the family tried to piece together the crime, until they disagreed with the Forensic Medicine Department after the truth was revealed, and also prevented the media from filming. Iraqi circles then exploded in anger after local media circulated details of the heinous crime in which the child, Shahd, fell victim, amid demands for the most severe punishments to be imposed on the perpetrator if he was convicted, so that he would be an example to others.

In the face of this anger, the local police opened an investigation into the incident, stressing that it would announce the results as soon as possible, stressing the need not to circulate any details about the matter in order to preserve the progress and confidentiality of the investigation.

It is noteworthy that since the beginning of this year, Iraq has witnessed serious shifts in crime numbers, as terrible crimes were recorded even within a single family. (Arabic)
