A meeting between the Mayor of Benin and the General Director of the North Lebanon Water Corporation

A meeting was held between the Mayor of Benin, Abda Mahmoud Johar, the Chairman of the Board of Directors – General Director of the North Lebanon Water Corporation, Khaled Obaid, and representatives of UNICEF.

According to a statement, the meeting discussed the issues that the drinking water sector had reached in the town of Benin after the Water Corporation took the decision to stop pumping water into the town, after about a year of pumping, maintenance and follow-up. The collection rate was very small for the previous subscribers, whose number is estimated at about 572 subscribers, despite their exemption from water allowances for the year 2022.

He continued: Likewise, only 52 citizens applied to subscribe for water in the year 2024, despite the reduction in the new water subscription allowance from 9 million to about 4 million.

He pointed out that the total number of water subscribers reached 622 subscribers from about 3,500 housing units that benefit from water in the town.

He concluded: Accordingly, this file was placed in the hands of the municipality to study the possibility of managing the drinking water sector in the town on a monthly or quarterly basis. Therefore, the municipality will put a questionnaire on the WhatsApp group and follow up through a field work team to communicate with our people in the town in order to restore water pumping. For beneficiaries and those committed to prepaying monthly or quarterly.
