I wish Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam success in his new mission
Prime Minister Najib Mikati issued the following statement:
With the issuance of the results of the parliamentary consultations conducted by His Excellency the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, with the representatives, I made a call to the Prime Minister-designate, Dr. Nawaf Salam, who is in The Hague, and I wished him success in his new mission of forming a government that is consistent with the principles and foundations that His Excellency the President specified in his oath speech and keeps pace with The aspirations of the Lebanese who are eager to complete the process of building the state and strengthening its authority over all Lebanese lands.
I also extend my thanks to the representatives who nominated me or expressed a desire to name me, appreciating their trust. I also thank the representatives who refrained from naming me because they expressed a democratic approach that we adhere to regardless of the circumstances.
On this occasion, I also extend my thanks to all the Lebanese who have accompanied the work undertaken by our government since its inception, especially in the caretaker phase, which was full of internal and external challenges, the most important of which is the Israeli aggression against Lebanon and its political, security, economic and social repercussions. Our government has worked in a record period to carry out emergency treatments, and has also laid the actual foundations for the process of dealing with the repercussions of this aggression. The state now has financial capabilities that it lost a long time ago. As for reform projects, many draft laws have been completed in preparation for their approval in the House of Representatives.
Our government also worked, despite these difficult circumstances, to manage the affairs of the state and ensure its continuity and the functioning of its institutions.
It was my destiny to lead this nation in its most difficult times, when many hesitated to take responsibility.
To our dear people, I offer my deepest feelings of gratitude. You have always been my inspiration and strength in every step I have taken. Your will and belief in Lebanon is what makes me confident in our common future.
Throughout the period in which I assumed the presidency of the government, I adopted the approach of moderation, which I have followed throughout my political life, due to my complete conviction that this country can only be governed with moderation and consensus, far from exclusion and intolerance. All past experiences have proven that there is no alternative to consensus, and that the challenging approach has led to the loss of many rescue opportunities. I hope that the new phase will be saving in every sense of the word and that it will bring goodness, peace and peace of mind to the Lebanese.
It is true that the challenges facing us are great, but the will of our people is stronger, and our unity and resilience are our salvation. Just as we have overcome wars and crises together, we will rise again together.
