In an interview with the American New York Times, Blinken considered that the two biggest obstacles preventing an end to the war in Gaza are related to the motivation that drives Hamas.
The US Secretary of State said: “We have spent months working on a post-conflict plan with many countries in the region and Arab partners.”
He continued: If we do not have the opportunity to start trying to implement it through a hostage ceasefire agreement within the next two weeks, we will hand it over to the incoming Trump administration and they can decide whether to move forward with it.
The American official pointed out that the suffering in Gaza was the motivation to find a way to end the conflict by recovering the hostages and reaching a ceasefire.
Blinken stressed that the situation is considered good regarding ensuring that the events of October 7, 2023 are not repeated, and he said: “Israel has destroyed Hamas’ military capabilities. It also eliminated the leadership responsible for the events of October 7.”
