Interior Minister Bassam Al-Mawlawi said today, Friday, that the government had previously decided to tighten controls at Rafic Hariri International Airport, stressing that this matter includes all bags and goods.
In a statement on Al-Hadath TV, Al-Mawlawi said that everyone who passes through Beirut Airport is searched, including diplomats, revealing that another plane belonging to the Iranian company Mahan Air arrived today at Beirut Airport and was searched. He added: The security services have complete control over Beirut Airport. Operational sums of money and documents belonging to the Iranian embassy were found yesterday inside the diplomatic bags that arrived at the airport via Mahan Air plane.
In addition, Mawlawi commented on: Clashes between the Lebanese army and Syrians on the border with Syria. He said: We are working to solve the problem that occurred yesterday on the Syrian border, and we do not stop any Syrian unless he is wanted by us or internationally.
He added: The militants with whom the army clashed are not affiliated with the new Syrian administration.
However, Al-Mawlawi stated that the entry of Syrians into Lebanon is in accordance with instructions and the law.
