Officially… Al-Riyadi Club announces its withdrawal from the Lebanese Basketball Cup

Beirut Sports Club President, Engineer Mazen Tabbara, officially announced his withdrawal from the Lebanese Basketball Cup (Antoine Choueiri), during a press conference he held a short while ago in the club hall in Manara.

Tabbara thanked the club’s fans for their support for the club and their initiative towards it, in the wake of the sanctions against him by the International Federation due to the events of the third match against Al-Hikma in the semi-finals of the West Asian Super League (Wasl), which cost the club very harsh penalties and fines.

The president of the sports club announced the request from the AFC to expand the investigation into the events of the Al-Hikma match in the Wasl Championship, and thanked the players and administrators for promoting the support initiative with the aim of covering the penalty, revealing that the donations did not reach the full coverage of the financial fine, which is a very large fine, thanking the fans for their support. This spontaneous campaign was not organized by the club.

Tabbara revealed the continuation of playing at the Nihad Nofal Complex in Zouk Mikael, considering that “the sports club is the homeland club and it plays in any stadium in Lebanon and has its fans in Lebanon and the Arab world.”

He wished the club’s fans not to participate in the tension on social media, and said: “We are working to correct the mistakes and increase security in the stadium.”

“Nidaa Al Watan” learned that the reasons for the Beirut Sports Club’s withdrawal from the Lebanese Basketball Cup competition, where it was going to face Homenetmen in the second group, are due to the Lebanese champion having several local and foreign entitlements, most notably the preparations for the Golden Square competitions of the Lebanese Championship, in addition to competing in the final round. For the “Wasl” Championship for the West Asia region, he will play two strong matches against Iranian champion Gorgan, which may expose his local players to injury.

Noting that 16 teams from different grades will participate in the cup competition.
