A historic ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel: full terms and details
A ceasefire agreement was signed between Hamas and Israel, ending the war that has been ongoing in the Gaza Strip for about 15 months.
Reuters revealed, according to a knowledgeable official, the most prominent provisions and details stipulated in the agreement, which include the following:
- A 6-week ceasefire with a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the central Gaza Strip.
- The return of displaced Palestinians to the northern Gaza Strip.
- Allowing 600 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid to enter Gaza every day of the ceasefire, 50 of which carry fuel, with 300 trucks allocated to the north of the Strip.
- Hamas releases 33 Israeli hostages, including all women (conscripts and civilians), children, and men over the age of 50.
- Hamas will release the female hostages and youth under 19 years old first, then the men over 50 years old.
- Hamas will release the hostages over a period of six weeks, with three hostages each week and the rest before the end of the period.
- All living Israeli hostages will be released first, then the remains of their dead hostages.
- Israel will release 30 Palestinian detainees for every civilian hostage and 50 for every Israeli female soldier released by Hamas.
- Israel will release all Palestinian women and children under the age of 19 detained since October 7, 2023 by the end of the first phase.
- The total number of Palestinians released will depend on the number of hostages released, and may range between 990 and 1,650 Palestinian detainees, including men, women and children.
- Negotiations on the second phase of the agreement will begin on the 16th day of the first phase.
The second phase is expected to include the release of all remaining hostages including male Israeli soldiers and a permanent ceasefire with the complete withdrawal of Israeli soldiers from the Gaza Strip.
The third phase is expected to include the return of all remaining bodies of dead Israeli hostages and the start of the reconstruction of Gaza under the supervision of Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations.
