The Ceasefire Implementation Monitoring Committee enhanced the feeling of security in the western sector with the presence of the Lebanese Army
The United States Embassy announced in a statement, “The Chairman of the Cessation of Hostilities Implementation Mechanism Committee, American General Jasper Jeffers, today, accompanied by French General Guillaume Ponchan, joined officers from the Lebanese Army in a visit to army checkpoints in the western sector of southern Lebanon. Major General The Fifth Lebanese Army took full control of this area last week immediately after the withdrawal of Israeli forces. Now, soldiers of the Fifth Brigade are working to make roads and villages safe to enable residents to return to their homes.”
She pointed out that “Generals Jeffers and Bonchan visited seven army checkpoints, where officers from the committee inspected the Lebanese soldiers, as they worked to monitor the roads to provide security and prevent the movement of unauthorized armed groups, in accordance with the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed on November 26, 2024.” They witnessed the reconstruction efforts and the detonation of some of the 31 (107 mm) rockets that were discovered in the town of Shamaa this morning.”
General Jeffers commented: “The Lebanese Army checkpoints and patrols are operating effectively throughout the western sector of southern Lebanon, and the soldiers are committed to their mission as the sole guarantors of Lebanon’s security. Their presence has created a feeling of security and stability, which will be important for civilians who will soon resume their normal activities in the area. We are on a very positive path to continue the withdrawal of the Israeli army, as planned, and the Lebanese army provides Lebanon with security and stability.”
