Two earthquakes rock Ethiopia within less than 10 minutes

Two earthquakes struck areas in Ethiopia within less than 10 minutes, Wednesday-Thursday night.

Russia Today quoted the US Geological Survey as saying that the first earthquake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, occurred 23 kilometers north of Awash, at a depth of 10 kilometers below the surface of the earth.

About 10 minutes later, another earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale occurred near the city of Mtahara, at a similar depth of 10 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of casualties or material losses.

During the last two weeks, Ethiopia has witnessed repeated earthquakes, the number of which exceeded 120, so that the year 2024 will achieve a record number of earthquakes compared to recent years.
