The “Forces” will vote for General Joseph Aoun

Representative George Adwan confirmed, during his appearance on the “Time Has Come” program, that the Lebanese Forces Party has decided on its position regarding supporting the Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, for the presidency of the republic, noting that the decision came after a series of intensive developments and meetings.

Adwan explained that the Lebanese Forces had previously announced that there was no veto on General Aoun’s nomination, but there were questions related to the political aspect of his vision. He added: “We held a positive meeting with General Aoun, during which we obtained clear answers regarding the implementation of the constitution and international resolutions, which strengthened our conviction to support him.”

Adwan pointed to the broad support that General Aoun’s candidacy received, saying: “Today we witnessed a broad spectrum of support that included the Socialist Party, the Moderation Bloc, the Democratic Renewal, the Phalange Party, the independent and change representatives, in exchange for the rejection of the Free Patriotic Movement and the Shiite duo.”

Adwan confirmed that the Lebanese Forces, as part of the opposition, will participate in the election session tomorrow and will vote for General Aoun. He pointed out that “the candidate for the presidency of the republic must represent a new phase that will bring Lebanon out of its political and economic crises and open the door to reforms.”

Adwan stressed that General Aoun is determined to begin his reign without any political or constitutional differences, stressing that the application of the constitution and laws will be the basis of his rule. He also pointed out that General Aoun obtaining 86 votes in the Parliament would make amending the constitution unnecessary.

At the conclusion of his speech, Adwan called for the need to bring Lebanon to a safe shore, saying: “There is a Lebanese and international consensus on the necessity of electing a president capable of launching reforms, reconstruction, and seriously implementing the ceasefire.” He stressed that the Lebanese Forces will continue to vote for General Aoun in all electoral rounds, noting that achieving 76 votes means that the majority of the Council agrees on this option, which puts the opposition parties in a sensitive position towards the Lebanese will.
