Under Trump’s presidency… Schulz is counting on strong relations between Berlin and Washington
In an interview published Tuesday with Stern magazine, Schulz stressed the decisive role that the United States played in Germany’s democratic development, both in the West after World War II and throughout the country after the peaceful revolution in East Germany.
He explained that this historical foundation continues to strengthen transatlantic relations, saying: “This foundation is solid, and will remain supportive of transatlantic relations for a long time.” He also stressed the importance of effective cooperation with the new American government.
Schulz also noted that he had two conversations with President-elect Trump, describing them as “very cordial.”
Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated as President of the United States on January 20. When asked about his attendance at the inauguration ceremony, Schulz said: “The American administration invited, as is usual, the German ambassador.” (Russia Today)
