Mikati showed great leadership in reaching the truce in Lebanon
US envoy Amos Hockstein said that Prime Minister Najib Mikati showed great leadership in reaching a ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
In a statement during his meeting with Mikati, on Monday evening, at the Saraya, Hockstein said: I concluded a meeting with the Prime Minister and we held very constructive discussions regarding the ceasefire agreement. Today I visited Naqoura to monitor the progress of the mechanisms related to the ceasefire and that Israel’s withdrawals from Lebanon will continue.
He continued: The Lebanese army inspires us with confidence and we support its role in implementing the ceasefire. The implementation of the agreement did not happen with the required speed, but it led to a complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from the western sector and the stationing of the Lebanese army there.
He concluded: We still have 20 days to reach the 60-day period, and we will continue the work that led to the Israeli withdrawal and the successful deployment of the Lebanese army, which is doing its job very well.
