In a statement, the Egyptian Interior Ministry explained the background behind the publication of a video showing a missile falling inside agricultural lands in Aswan Governorate, southern Egypt.

The ministry said in its statement that “the video publisher works as a mobile phone maintenance technician and resides in Qalyubia Governorate.”

It indicated that he “admitted to obtaining a video clip of a crashed missile in one of the countries by searching it on social networking sites, and then claimed that it had crashed in Aswan Governorate, in order to raise viewing rates, reap likes, and achieve financial profits.”

The Ministry confirmed that legal measures had been taken against the perpetrator.

The news sparked a wave of angry reactions in Egypt on social media, especially with the repeated phenomenon of publishing fabricated and false news to collect views. (Sky News)
