The four teachers from Cornell College, a private liberal arts college in Mount Vernon, Iowa, were injured “in a serious accident” during a day visit to a public park in the northeastern Chinese city of Jilin, the school’s director, Jonathan Brand, confirmed in a statement.
A video clip circulating on social media showed people lying on the ground covered in blood in Bishan Park.
As of Tuesday afternoon local time, there was no data regarding the incident from the Chinese authorities.
The attack occurred at a time when the United States and China, the world’s two largest economies, are working to enhance exchanges as part of efforts to improve bilateral relations in general.
