The US Senate approves the appointment of Matt Witr, an ambassador to NATO

The US Senate approved the appointment of Matt Whittar, an ambassador of the United States to NATO, in a move that is decisive with a time in which concerns about Washington’s commitment to its international alliances are increasing.

Whitker, who held a position in the Ministry of Justice during the first administration of President Donald Trump, has more law enforcement than being an expert in foreign policy or national security, and his appointment was approved by a majority of 52 votes compared to 45.

During the hearing to confirm his candidacy, Wittar assured the members of the Senate that the Trump administration’s commitment to the NATO “NATO” is “firm and underestimated.

Questions were raised about the extent of the United States’ commitment to the alliance, especially because of Trump’s sharp criticism of his European allies and his endeavor to strengthen his relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump also pressed NATO member states to increase their defensive spending rather than relying on American support. (Russia today)
