The war cost 14 billion dollars and 11 billion for reconstruction

The report “Rapid Assessment of Countries and Needs in Lebanon, recently issued by the World Bank, revealed that the extent of direct damage to the material assets as a result of the recent Israeli war amounted to 6.8 billion dollars, while economic losses amounted to 7.2 billion dollars, which means that the total losses amounted to 14 billion dollars.

The World Bank estimated that “recovery and reconstruction needs” reached 11 billion dollars, 8.4 billion of which must be secured during 2025 until 2027.
Fouad Berri wrote in “Al -Akhbar”: The World Bank’s report comes in a political time commensurate with the project “Prevention of Reconstruction” led by foreign and Arab countries in Lebanon, without noticing the achieved part of the reconstruction and so far 650 million dollars that Hezbollah has been unable to alone.
In this report, the World Bank estimates the losses of the housing sector, that is, the destroyed housing units, at 4.6 billion dollars, expected that the “reconstruction needs” of the housing sector will reach 6.3 billion dollars out of $ 11 billion (the rest is related to infrastructure and services related to public institutions), or 57% of the total recovery needs.
The World Bank divided the method of paying this amount in time into 3 phases, $ 1.6 billion in the immediate term in 2025, and $ 2.4 billion paying during the years 2026 and 2027, and $ 1.8 billion paid from 2028 to 2030. Geographically, the report reaffirms that the provinces of Nabatieh and Lebanon are the most affected, followed by Mount Lebanon, where the southern suburb is located. The aggression caused the incubation of Nabatieh Governorate the highest level of damage, and amounted to 3.2 billion dollars at the level of housing units, as well as the highest economic losses, and reached two billion dollars. He expected that the reconstruction process would need $ 4.7 billion. In the southern province of Lebanon, the damage to the housing sector amounted to one billion dollars, in the southern suburb 973 million dollars, and in the Baalbek province of Hermel 236 million dollars.
It is clear that the World Bank report was issued in a political agenda based on “blowing” losses and intimidating its cost to the Lebanese. It is striking that he talks about a cost of 14 billion dollars after he had issued a preliminary report indicating that the cost amounted to 8.5 billion dollars, an increase of previous estimates of 65%. The World Bank also estimates that reconstruction needs are about $ 11 billion. However, according to the report’s data, the reconstruction is mixed with its apartment, and the infrastructure of infrastructure.
The same report indicates that the losses of the housing sector amounted to $ 4.6 billion, or 67% of the total damage, but it has not resolved the cost of the feet until now, especially in the part related to partial restoration, construction restoration and accommodation. The value of what Hezbollah paid for these partial, construction and accommodation damage was about 650 million dollars.
What this means is that Lebanon must adhere to the external political agenda that will provide it with the necessary reforms in preparation for attracting aid and loans to finance the reconstruction process. In a clearer sense, with the inability to curb the continued Israeli attacks, the international community must be met to obtain financing, and to start the reconstruction process, otherwise the rubble will remain on the ground.
