About Hezbollah .. What is a Western diplomat revealed?

The British newspaper “The Guardian” published a new report in which it spoke about “Hezbollah” and the losses in which it suffered during the last war against Israel.

The report that translated it speaks Lebanon 24 On the funeral of Hezbollah for 95 martyrs in the town of Aitron, last week, indicating that what the town witnessed was one of the biggest funerals in Lebanon since the beginning of the war between Hezbollah and Israel.

The “Guardian” report says that hundreds of people saw the rows of coffins, which were transported by 4 trucks, while the destroyed buildings as a result of the Israeli bombing were surrounding the vehicle procession.

The British report considered that “the last war left Hezbollah in a state of atauguration,” noting that “the party’s almost complete domination of the Lebanese state for two decades has weakened due to the losses incurred by the organization during the war.”
He continued: “During the war battles, most Hezbollah senior leaders were killed alongside thousands of fighters, while many of its weapons stores were destroyed. But the group’s damage also had a severe impact on societies in southern Lebanon, which constitutes the base of its support. In Aitron, one of the most affected villages in Lebanon, the population wondered whether their sacrifices deserved to do so.

He continued: “Maggie El -Sayed Hassan, a 23 -year -old student and participated in the funeral of Friday, was carrying the image of her neighbor Abbas, who was killed with 22 others from Aiteron in an Israeli raid on the town of Itet, a Christian town in northern Lebanon, where they resorted to displaced people from the south.”

According to the newspaper, Mr. Hassan says that “Abbas did not want to become a martyr,” she added, “Abbas had many things that he wanted to do in his life … the price of the war was high … Why did we have to fight it?”

The report indicates that “Hezbollah” promised at the beginning of the war to compensate everyone who was damaged, and added: “Now, after the destruction of large areas of the country, it is primarily inhabited by individuals from its base, Hezbollah is struggling to find the necessary funds to fulfill its promise, and asked its supporters to be patient.”

In turn, one of the farmers in Aitron, Ahmed (67 years old), says: “We are not optimistic at all .. The future of our children has been completely lost, and we do not expect to recover the value of our house that is destroyed by an Israeli raid.”

The British newspaper indicates that Lebanon and Hezbollah aspired to the international community to obtain funds to rebuild the war -torn country, which incurred billions of damage.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese government pledged to restore the state’s monopoly of weapons and work to disarm all the militias in the country, a statement directed primarily to Hezbollah, according to the “Guardian”.

Nevertheless, the newspaper says that “according to the conditions of the ceasefire with Israel on the twenty -seventh of November, Hezbollah withdrew its weapons from its historical stronghold south of the Litani River, about 18 miles from the Israeli border.”

The report also explains that “the Lebanese army was active in imposing the conditions of the ceasefire agreement, as it dismantled the military assets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, and conducted raids in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which was not possible to imagine only six months ago.”

He continued: “Likewise, Hezbollah lost control of major assets such as Beirut Airport and smuggling routes along the Syrian border, which was historically a major source of its cash flows.”

The Guardian quotes a Western diplomatic source in Beirut as saying that “Hezbollah is in waiting and anticipation”, while it recovers from the war and adapts to a new political reality in Lebanon and the region on a broader scale.

“They are playing with this game because this is the best option for them,” said the Western diplomat, who asked not to be identified because he is not authorized to speak to the media. It is a temporary option. ”

On the other hand, experts say, according to the newspaper, that Hezbollah is still the strongest local political forces yet, and it should not be underestimated.

Here, the Western diplomat says: “The group has not yet died,” referring to Hezbollah.
