Minister of Economy discussing food security and controlling prices with those concerned

Today, the Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Al -Bassat, received the Board of Directors of the “Security Companies” Association headed by Asaad Mirza, in the presence of the Acting President of the “Security Bodies Monitoring Committee”, Nadim Haddad. During the meeting, the issues that the association seeks to address and ways to find appropriate solutions to them were discussed, in addition to how to enhance cooperation with the Warning Authority Monitoring Committee.

Minister Al -Bassat also received a delegation from the Food Importers Syndicate headed by Hani Baasali, in the presence of the Director General of the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Dr. Muhammad Abu Haidar. The meeting dealt with the issue of food security and the control of prices in light of the approaching month of Ramadan.

In this context, Minister Al -Bassat stressed “the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors to ensure the stability of prices and secure the basic foodstuffs for citizens, especially in light of the current economic conditions.” He also stressed, “The Ministry’s keenness to follow the markets and take the necessary measures to prevent any manipulation of prices or exploitation of the need of citizens.”

For his part, the delegation’s collections and members of the delegation were presented the challenges facing the sector, as it was agreed to continue coordination and cooperation to ensure the availability of basic foodstuffs during the holy month. The importance of enhancing oversight has also been emphasized to control any violations that may affect food security.
