In response to the invitation of Ocalan .. The PKK announces a ceasefire with Türkiye

The PKK confirmed today, Saturday, the ceasefire with Türkiye, in response to the invitation of its leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The party said that “it will comply with the invitation of its imprisoned leader to achieve peace and announce the ceasefire starting from Saturday.”

Last Thursday, Ocalan launched an invitation to the party, to remove his weapon and dissolve itself, in a move that might lead to an end to a conflict for more than 40 years with Türkiye.

Commenting on the invitation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that it represents the beginning of a “new stage”.

Erdogan considered that there is now a “opportunity for a historical step.”

This step has paved the way for new peace talks between the PKK and the Turkish government, which is the first step of this type in more than a decade.

It is noteworthy that the Kurdistan Workers Party is included as a terrorist organization in Türkiye, the European Union and the United States. (Sky News)
