The first Ghaith .. Europe suspends a set of sanctions imposed on Syria

The European Union countries approved today, Monday, to suspend a set of sanctions imposed on Syria, including those related to energy, transport and construction, according to AFP.

The European Union is seeking to help rebuild Syria after years of conflict.

It also works to weave relations with the new administration demanding the lifting of Western sanctions imposed on Damascus during the era of former President Assad.

These restrictions were imposed on the Assad government and full sectors of the Syrian economy during the conflict that broke out in 2011.

The continental bloc can re -impose sanctions if the new Syrian leaders do not respect human rights or democratic values, according to European Union foreign policy official Kaya Callas last month. (Arm News)
