He gave his speech to Trump, saying: “We share the desire to achieve peace,” but he stressed at the same time that “peace cannot mean the surrender of Ukraine.”

He stressed the need to achieve a permanent peace, noting that “any ceasefire without security guarantees will not be sustainable.”

He explained that “France has already discussed with Britain the issue of sending peacekeepers in the context of security guarantees.”

He added: “We also realize that the Europeans should do more for security in Europe, for the European defense, and in order to distribute more equitable security.”
