Reuters quoted a senior government official in Canada as saying that his country would take legal action before international bodies related to challenging the 25 percent customs duties imposed by the United States on most Canadian goods and describing them as illegal and unjustified.

These comments come a day after. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for a wide range of counter -tarit duties by 25 percent on American goods in response to the customs duties announced by President Donald Trump on Saturday.

“We will definitely continue to resort to the legal means that we believe we have through the agreements we share with the United States,” said the official in a press statement in Ottawa.

Trump imposed 25 percent customs duties on all Canadian goods, with the exception of energy products such as oil, gas and electricity, which will be subject to 10 percent customs duties when they enter the United States.

The 25 percent customs duties will enter into force from Tuesday, while customs duties will be applied to February 18.
