Iraq seeks to end the European ban on its air lines


On Sunday, Prime Minister Mohamed Shi’a Al -Sudani received the delegation of the International Air Transport Federation (IATA), headed by Vice President of the Federation, Kamel Al -Awadi, as part of efforts by his government to end the European ban on Iraqi Airways.

A government statement said that “the meeting reviewed Iraq’s efforts and procedures regarding the end of the European ban on Iraqi Airways, and the implementation rates in the plan prepared by the committee in charge of achieving the requirements for lifting the ban.”

For many years, Iraqi Airways has been subjected to ban and penalties as a result of “the company’s failure to meet international air safety standards set by the International Air Transport Federation.”

The meeting also witnessed the discussion of Iraq’s efforts in the field of developing the work of the Airlines and the application of automation in all joints of its work, as well as in the field of raising the company’s capabilities, developing the skills of its cadres, upgrading the level of services provided to travelers, and transporting goods.

And Iraqi Airways announced, at the end of October 2024, that it has updated its air fleet by providing 13 new aircraft, including 5 “Airbus”, 6 Boeing 737 aircraft, and two “Dream Land” planes out of 10 contracted aircraft.

The number of aircraft is expected to increase in the coming years to reach more than 30 aircraft.

Al -Sudani stressed “this file is given the utmost importance, the continuous follow -up of the work of the committee in charge of lifting the ban, and to provide all the necessary facilities in order to complete its work and fulfill all the requirements of this matter, and work in parallel to develop the facilities of the Airlines and adhere to international standards, and all the developments in the field of transportation Air.

The government statement quoted Kamel Al -Awadi his reference to “the importance of completing the completion of this file (ban), especially since the achievement rate achieved in the corrective plan has advanced to 56 percent, which means that the project’s time plan is properly in the right direction.”
