Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund visited Lebanon and met Salam, Raji and the first lady


During his visit to Lebanon, the Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, Andrew Society, met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Foreign Minister Joe Raji and First Lady Nemat Aoun as the President of the Lebanese National Women Affairs Authority. He also visited a primary health care center and a safe area supported by the fund in Tire, where they met women and girls affected by the recent hostilities in Lebanon.

During his visit, Saberon congratulated President Salam on the formation of a new government, and expressed the United Nations Population Fund’s readiness to support the framework of reform, recovery and reconstruction. This includes strengthening access to reproductive health and life -saving protection services that are intense with a focus on rehabilitating systems, enhancing local capabilities and implementing a coordinated strategy that ensures that women, girls and youth are at the heart of the comprehensive recovery process. In parallel, Saberton and the first lady stressed the improper influence of multi -faceted crises in Lebanon on women and girls, and the importance of continuous cooperation to enhance the reforms that put women and girls at the heart of the response, especially those affected by displacement and economic instability.

Salbon emphasized the partnership of the United Nations Long Population Fund with the National Authority for Lebanese Women Affairs and its commitment to “supporting its institutional capacity and strategic initiatives to enhance gender equality, restore basic services and enhance the ability to withstand with a focus on the needs of women, girls and youth to promote peace and transformational development.”

For more than 30 years, the United Nations Population Fund has been a fixed partner in Lebanon, as it worked closely with the government, civil society and other organizations to improve the lives of the most vulnerable groups. The United Nations Population Fund’s focus remains on providing life -saving services and enabling societies for a sustainable future, while ensuring that no one is left.
