Moscow: We are concerned about Greenland’s militarization

The head of the European Foreign Ministry, Artum Stodenicov, expressed Moscow’s concern about Greenland’s militarization and made it a threat to Russia’s security.

He added, “It is important to note that we are concerned about the possibility of Greenland’s militarization more and the creation of dangers that threaten Russia’s security. Our country does not accept the imposition of the curricula of confrontation in the Arctic region, and it is important to preserve it as a stability area.

Stodnikov stressed that Russia is constantly calling for the formation of a reliable international security structure in the region that guarantees the equal rights of all the Arctic countries.

He continued: “We reaffirm the primary approach of Russia, which firmly rejects the intervention in the internal affairs of the countries and considers it unacceptable. Of course, this also applies to Denmark, and the relationships between Copenhagen and Greenland. ”

He stressed the need for Greenland residents to decide the fate of their island without any external interference.

He said: “It is known that achieving independence and forming an independent state has become the dominant national idea among the indigenous Greenland in recent years. At the same time, the latest opinion polls indicate that most of them oppose joining the United States. The Russian Federation will eventually respect the option of the Greenland people. ”

US President Donald Trump recently stressed Greenland’s strategic importance of American national security and protecting the “free world”, including from China and Russia, and stressed the need to include it to the United States. (Russia today)
