After the last earthquake … What is the fact that a blue light appears in the sky of Morocco?

Pages on social media circulated a video and pictures claiming to document the appearance of a blue light in the sky in conjunction with the earthquake that Morocco witnessed on Monday night – Tuesday.

On that night, areas of northern Morocco recorded a 5.2 -degree earthquake, which sparked the concern of the population, and returned to the minds of the devastating earthquake that struck the country in 2023.

According to AFP, the image is not from Morocco, but is taken from an old video documenting a similar phenomenon that occurred in New Zealand in 2016 after a strong earthquake.

It was also found that this image was published for years in videos and news reports confirming that it was taken in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, after an earthquake of 7.4 on November 14, 2016, killing two people.

Local media documented at the time the appearance of blue lights in the sky, coinciding with the earthquake.

Blue lights appear in the sky during earthquakes are known as the “Earthquake Lights – EQL”.

It is believed to be caused by the freedom of electrical shipments of rocks due to the massive geological pressure, which leads to the interaction of gases in the atmosphere, causing and blue or other colors. (Free)
