The Supreme Follow -up Committee for the Defense of the Teachers Displaced in UNRWA announced the closure of Palestinian refugees this morning all the headquarters, centers and schools of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in Lebanon, including its headquarters in Beirut, in protest against the agency’s neglect of their demands and arbitrary arrest For five teachers since last October. This procedure coincided with a sudden and unannounced visit to UNRWA, Philip Lazarini, to Lebanon.

The committee clarified that this escalating step, which came in response to an invitation from them and from several youth institutions and movements, included the closure of the main headquarters in Beirut, offices in the regions, schools and vocational centers, with the exception of clinics and the cleaning sector. Hundreds of Palestinian youth activists participated in the camps in closing the headquarters, expressing their demands to obtain a decent and human life.

The committee added that Lazarini’s visit to Lebanon contributed to escalating anger and congestion in the Palestinian circles, where some considered it a provocation after the agency ignored their demands, including the issue of the arrested teachers, explaining that the aim of the strike is to pressure UNRWA to retract the decision to stop the five teachers, and the demand They return to work immediately, with a transparent investigation according to UNRWA and humanitarian laws.

The committee emphasized that this strike reflects the state of general anger among Palestinian refugees in Lebanon due to UNRWA’s dealings with the issue of teachers, considering that this decision constitutes an insult to their dignity. The committee held the UNRWA administration responsible for escalation, confirming that it will continue to take all necessary measures to achieve its just demands.
