After a long period of the Bank of Lebanon’s commitment to directing banks to pay the dual monthly payments of the depositors who benefit from the circular 158 and 166, it appears that the next stage will witness a return to the previous formula.

The Central Bank decided to re -work in the old system, as the current data indicate that the beneficiaries of the circular 158 will receive 300 dollars per month, while the beneficiaries of the circular will get 166 at 150 dollars, in light of the improvement of the conditions after the interruption of Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the election of a new president of the republic .

On the other hand, well -informed sources told Lebanese media that the Bank of Lebanon is currently working on studying the possibility of increasing the amounts allocated to circular 158 and 166, while ensuring that it does not affect the liquidity of banks or cash reserves. It is noteworthy that since the start of the work of these two generalizations until November 30, 2024, the number of beneficiaries reached 431,448 deposits, while the total amount of payments reached 3.24 billion dollars.

In a related context, sources revealed that the Bank of Lebanon bought more than $ 500 million from the local market during January, compared to a previous monthly rate ranging between 200 and 250 million dollars. This number is expected to strengthen the bank’s reserves, which amounted to in mid -January, about 10.4 billion dollars, noting that the reserve also includes sums in the euro, which recorded a decline in its value recently.

For its part, the newspaper “Al -Nahar” reported that after the Bank of Lebanon persevered throughout the last period, the instrument of banks is paid by paying a sum of money for depositors who benefit from the circular 158 and 166 equivalent to two monthly batches, it seems that the scene will change to return to normal. The Bank of Lebanon was attributing its decision to pay two batches to the emergency conditions the country is going through, the last of which was in January 2025. But now, with the change of circumstances, he decided to return matters to its previous era, although it has not yet issued an official decision. That is, the beneficiaries of the circular 158 will receive 300 dollars per month, and the beneficiaries of the circular 166 will receive 150 dollars, after the Israeli attacks stopped on Lebanon and the election of a president of the republic.

The positive matter, according to the sources obtained by “Al -Nahar”, is that the Bank of Lebanon is working on a study to increase the amounts allocated to the circular without affecting the liquidity of banks or cash reserves of the central bank.
