Lebanon today »How did Bashar al -Assad escape to Russia?

The American “NBC News” network revealed new details of the last 24 hours spent by the former Syrian regime president, Bashar al -Assad, in his country before fleeing to Russia at dawn on Sunday, the eighth of last December.

According to the television report, the seventh of December witnessed accelerating developments that began to control the armed opposition factions on the city of Homs, which constituted a strong blow to the regime.

On that day, Assad held a closed meeting with the adviser to the Iranian guide, Ali Larijani, without any of his usual aides, according to the network.

According to Kamel Saqr, the former director of the media office in the Syrian presidency, this meeting was “decisive”, during which it was found that “no one is ready to fight in defense of the Assad regime, neither Iran, nor Hezbollah, nor Russia, and even the Syrian army itself.”

The same source indicated that the regime “understood on this day that its end has approached”, and in an attempt to cover up his escape plans, Assad ordered the preparation of a theater at the Palace of immigrants to deliver a letter of 400 words, but the speech was never delivered.

At 6:58 pm, the Presidential Palace issued a misleading statement confirming that “Assad is practicing his work from Damascus,” while he was secretly preparing to leave.

In the same context, Mazen Ayoun, an employee of the Syrian News Agency (SANA), revealed that he had received a call at seven in the evening to translate the statement into English, at a time when Assad was putting the final touches on his plan to escape.
