The United States announced the suspension of customs duties that it plans to impose on imports from Mexico and Canada after both countries reached new agreements on border security, according to what leaders announced on Monday.

The proposed American fees, which amount to 25 percent, were scheduled to enter imports from Mexico and Canada, and only 10 percent of Canadian energy exports, in effect today, Tuesday.

However, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that Washington agreed to suspend customs duties on Canadian imports “for at least 30 days”, after a conversation with US President Donald Trump.

“The proposed customs duties will be suspended for at least 30 days while we work together,” Trudeau said on the social media platform “X”.

On the other hand, Canada agreed to make concessions on border security.

“Canada is implementing our border plan of $ 3.1 billion,” Trudeau added. Razing the borders with new helicopters and modern technologies and spreading additional individuals, as well as Mohsen coordination with our American partners and increasing resources to stop the flow of fentanel.

He pointed out that “approximately 10,000 front lines employees work and will continue to work to protect the borders.”

Trump confirmed the suspension of customs duties in a publication on “Truth Social”, where he said: “As a president, I am one of my responsibility to ensure the safety of all Americans, and I am doing it. I am very happy with this initial result, and the declared customs duties will be suspended on Saturday for 30 days to see if a final economic agreement can be reached with Canada. ”

Earlier, the United States also postponed customs duties on Mexican imports for one month after Mexico agreed to deploy 10,000 soldiers on its northern border.
