Lebanon today »There are no schools tomorrow and an urgent advice for the population … a country that warns of a seismic activity

The Greek authorities advised the residents of Santorini Island in the Aegean Sea to close the schools tomorrow, avoid two small port and refrain from gathering in closed places after monitoring an increase in seismic activity in the region during the past few days.

The Ministry of Civil Protection said in a statement that it recorded a series of tremors of 4.3 degrees per day on Friday and Saturday in the area between Santorini Volcanic Peninsula and Amersus.

The ministry explained that these tremors are not linked to volcanic activity and that they are declining, but experts suggested precautionary measures, including the closure of schools on the third of February. They also urged the residents to avoid the small port of Amoudi, as well as the Vera port, which mainly serves the ships of cruises.

The Athens Institute of Geodamic Sciences said that seismic tremors ranged between 2.8 and 4.5 on the Richter scale that occurred in the area on Sunday morning without causing damage. (Arabic)
