The Central Bank of Syria intends to provide public and private banks and their branches in various governorates in the Syrian currency of 1000, 500, 200 and 100 pounds, with the aim of meeting the needs of customers from cash withdrawal, whether from their savings, their deposits, or transfers and bank transfers.

According to Syrian newspapers, quoting private sources, a large number of customers expressed their refusal to receive their financial dues in these small groups, due to the difficulty of dealing with them and its large size that requires the use of bags to transfer large sums, as it is equivalent to half a million pounds of 500 pounds. A “huge” critical block is easily difficult to carry.

On the other hand, some customers expressed their willingness to receive their dues in these groups without objection, understanding the current economic conditions that the country is going through. The sources confirmed that this acceptance came after assurances that the central bank intends to pump more of these groups in the markets during the coming period, in light of the decline in the available quantities of the category of 2000 pounds, and the limitation of the use of the category of 5,000 pounds to feeding the ATMs only.

This procedure comes within the efforts of the central bank to ensure the availability of cash liquidity and facilitate financial withdrawals in light of the economic challenges facing the country.
