With the Israeli security mini-government ratifying the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and the prisoner exchange with Hamas, some steps are still awaited later.

It is expected that the expanded government will approve, this evening or tomorrow, Saturday, the agreement without the need to ratify it by the Knesset, according to Al-Arabiya information.

The Israeli public will then be given 6 hours to object before the judiciary to the group or list of Palestinian prisoners prepared for their release.

Implementation of the agreement will begin on Sunday afternoon, with the release of the first three Israeli female detainees in Gaza.

However, before each release, Hamas gives Israel information about the identity of those who will be released, and vice versa, meaning that the Israeli side hands over to the movement a list of prisoners through intermediaries.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had announced that the release of prisoners would begin on Sunday, according to the agreement.

It was announced that the cabinet had approved the agreement, and that the exchange decision was based on that approval.

He also confirmed that the agreement had entered into force, provided that the prisoners in Gaza would be released in accordance with the announced frameworks.

Simultaneously, the meetings of the technical committee continue in Cairo, charged with following up on the mechanism for implementing the ceasefire in Gaza and bringing in aid.

3 stages

It is noteworthy that during the first phase of the agreement, which extends over 3 stages, 33 Israeli prisoners will be released, in batches, including women, as well as 11 men between the ages of 55 and 80, in addition to the wounded and wounded, in exchange for a group of Palestinian prisoners.

The second phase is supposed to allow the release of the rest of the detainees, in exchange for dozens of Palestinians also in Israeli prisons.

The third and final phase will be devoted to rebuilding Gaza and returning the remains of Israeli prisoners who died during their detention in the destroyed Palestinian Strip.

Hamas’s position

Hamas commented by saying in a statement on its Telegram account today, Friday, that “the obstacles that appeared regarding the terms of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza have been resolved.”

She added: “With the generous efforts of the mediators, the obstacles that arose due to Israel’s non-compliance with the terms of the ceasefire agreement were resolved at dawn today.”

It also stressed that the lists of its prisoners released in the first stage of the exchange deal within the ceasefire agreement will be published through the Prisoners’ Office according to the stages and procedures of the exchange.

WHO plans

In a related development, the World Health Organization announced plans to increase assistance, equip medical facilities, and evacuate patients.

Rick Pepperkorn, the representative of the World Health Organization in the Palestinian Territories, said today, “It is possible to significantly increase the entry of aid into Gaza to about 600 trucks per day under the terms of the ceasefire agreement.”

Pepperkorn explained in a press statement in Geneva, “I believe that the possibility exists greatly, especially when the other crossings are opened.”

He also added that the World Health Organization plans to introduce an unspecified number of hospitals ready to support the devastated health sector in Gaza during the next two months.

He continued, “We hope and expect an increase in medical evacuations for more than 12,000 patients with the ceasefire in Gaza.”
