Today’s Baabda meeting resolves the directions of government composition, and Mikati called in peace with congratulations
After a sudden change occurred in the votes of representatives and blocs at noon yesterday, with what appeared to be an intense and rapid intervention that descended on the representatives as a revelation, attention is turning to the expected meeting between the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, and the President-designate, Nawaf Salam, this afternoon, to find out what the President will do. The person charged with the hypothesis of breaking the Charter by obtaining the mandate without any Shiite voice and the possibility of undertaking the composition without the two parliamentary blocs that monopolize Shiite parliamentary representation in the House of Representatives, Which means gaining confidence without any Shiite vote as well.
The sources of the Shiite duo confirm that they are the most keen on internal unity, and are still committed to making the covenant a success, but it seems that others do not want that, and they must bear the responsibility of trying to isolate an essential component of the country. In the opinion of the sources, if matters are not restored, the first to be harmed will be the Covenant, which seems to be someone who wants to stumble in its launch, and if the situation is not remedied in the formation process, things will head towards a political problem, which will lead to an open crisis that may extend to the next parliamentary elections. .
A parliamentary source said that the part related to naming the prime minister is not subject to objection, nor is the blocs changing their positions, as that is a constitutional right without controversy. The issue is not the comparison between the names of President Najib Mikati and Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam. The issue is simply that an agreement was made with the Saudi side on behalf of the American side and with the President of the Republic, which ended with the duo moving from voting with a white paper that would have continued for dozens of sessions, to electing General Joseph Aoun as president. According to an agreement that includes the name of a designated president whose name is guaranteed by the Saudi side. What happened was a coup against the agreement, directed against the President of the Republic first and against his era, the trust and the understandings that took place under his auspices and with his approval. This coup nullifies all the claims of those who claim to care for the president and support his reign.
President Nabih Berri said in a brief statement, “This is not what we agreed and understood,” while relevant sources indicated that the Shiite duo considers that they have been subjected to a political deception of a heavy caliber.
President Aoun said: The first step has ended, and I hope that the composition will be smooth as soon as possible, and frankly, we have great opportunities.
Following the appointment, President Najib Mikati issued a statement in which he announced that he had made contact with the Prime Minister-designate, Dr. Nawaf Salam, who is in The Hague, and wished him success in his new mission to form a government that is consistent with the principles and foundations set by His Excellency the President in his swearing-in speech and keeps pace with the aspirations of the Lebanese who are eager to complete the process of building the state. And strengthening its authority over all Lebanese lands.
Internationally, French President Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Beirut on Friday, the 17th of this month, and the next day, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will arrive to offer congratulations to President Aoun and assess Lebanon’s needs for assistance in the next stage.
