Los Angeles fires.. Will the American army enter the line?

Diane Creswell, Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the United States, said on Sunday that US Army forces are ready to deploy to contain forest fires that have been sweeping the city of Los Angeles since last week.

She added in an interview with the American ABC network that the agency has the necessary funding to support efforts to combat the fires.

The fire has so far destroyed more than 12,000 buildings, according to the California Fire Department, while the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office reported that at least 16 people were killed.

Despite the efforts of thousands of firefighters to contain the flames, the Pacific Palisades fire has expanded to northwest Los Angeles, threatening the densely populated San Fernando Valley as well as the Getty Museum and its priceless works of art.

Although it is too early to know the source of the fires, criticism has been directed at the authorities over the extent of their preparedness and response. (Sky News)
