Macron will visit Lebanon… and this is what was said about the army

An-Nahar newspaper reported on Saturday that French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Lebanon next week to congratulate President Joseph Aoun on his election as president of the country.

The newspaper said that Aoun’s election had good feedback from the French presidency, which made tremendous efforts with Saudi Arabia and the United States to get Lebanon out of the cycle of a dangerous institutional vacuum, explaining that Paris is waiting to assign a prime minister to carry out reforms because what happened recently gives Lebanon hope for emerging from the crisis.

In addition, Paris believes that the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel is progressing better now, and that violations on both sides have reduced, according to An-Nahar.

According to information, the American-French monitoring mechanism that emerged from the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel on November 26 stipulates that the Israeli withdrawal from the south will be completed between the 26th or 27th of this month, but the date of Israel’s withdrawal from the south does not mean that the ceasefire agreement will be completed. It will end, because it must continue beyond.

An-Nahar learned that the army is effectively implementing its mandate, dismantling about 80 Hezbollah military sites, and that Hezbollah is committed to the November 26 agreement.

According to sources following up on the implementation of the agreement, the Israeli move to implement the decision comes in parallel with the Lebanese move. The agreement refers to the official Lebanese party and does not mention Hezbollah, while Israel wants to ensure maximum security for the return of the population to the north and to ensure that it does not remain along the Blue Line, i.e. Hezbollah’s weapons infrastructure, and that the Lebanese army is implementing its commitment to deployment.
