We will stand at the same distance from everyone in Lebanon
The leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, confirmed, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, that bilateral relations between Lebanon and Syria were the focus of the discussion, indicating that Damascus will stand at the same distance from everyone in Lebanon.
Al-Sharaa added that the goal is to build positive relations between the Syrian and Lebanese peoples on the basis of mutual respect and the sovereignty of the two countries. He also stressed that Syria seeks to address all problems through dialogue.
He pointed out that if it were up to him, he would completely open the borders with Lebanon, stressing that relations between the two countries must be built on the basis of brotherhood. He added that the border issue is related to customs, and that if he had the opportunity, he would make the borders open to everyone.
He concluded by saying: “Syria’s priority now is to maintain the country’s security and confine weapons to the Syrian state,” stressing that Syria’s relations with Lebanon will be strategic, long-term and built on strong and sound foundations.
