How will Trump end the Ukrainian war?

Days before the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States, scenarios about the Russian-Ukrainian war are still occupying political circles. In a television interview, Trump said that Russia is losing many of its young people, as well as Ukraine, because of the war, and indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to talk to him. Trump stated that he would have avoided war if there had been serious discussions with him, and that his past relations with Putin helped strengthen international security.

According to experts, Trump is managing the war file with political and military shrewdness, taking advantage of the current situation to drain resources. According to Dr. Tawfiq Hamid, “Trump believes that Ukraine has lost the battle and that American military support for Ukraine is causing a loss for the West, while also exhausting Russia.” Hamid added that Trump’s statements reflect his confidence in Putin, with the possibility of reaching a deal that includes lifting part of the sanctions on Russia.

For his part, Rami Al-Qalioubi indicated that Trump began to back away from his previous populist statements about ending the war quickly, and began talking about the possibility of ending it in half a year. Al-Qalioubi predicted that Trump may succeed in reaching a deal with Putin and Zelensky, and linking financial and military support for Ukraine to the negotiations, but the most pessimistic scenario is that the war will continue until new geopolitical changes occur that allow negotiations to take place.
