Biden will unveil the latest sanctions package against Russia during his final week as president
According to the official, whose name was not revealed, this… It comes as part of Biden’s recent measures to support Kiev militarily against Russia before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20.
The same speaker indicated that this step coincides with the Biden administration’s preparation to provide new military aid to Ukraine valued at $500 million on Thursday, which is expected to include air defense missiles, air-to-ground munitions, and support equipment for F-16 fighter aircraft.
He said that there are currently no details available about the nature of the sanctions that Biden will impose on the Russian economy in his final days, but his aides briefed the Trump team on the steps that are being taken.
The official added that most of the weapons and ammunition promised to Ukraine have been delivered, and the rest are on their way to delivery.
According to him, Ukraine’s stocks of critical munitions are now in good condition, adding that looking back, none of these steps resulted in significant gains for Ukraine on the battlefield.
He claimed that “Ukraine may need security commitments, including its potential membership in NATO, to ward off any future Russian attack after peace negotiations.”
On December 30, the White House reported that Biden announced the allocation of approximately $2.5 billion in security aid to the Kiev regime.
Biden promised that the United States would continue “to work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s position in the conflict until the end of his presidential term in January 2025,” expressing his confidence that “priority expenditures will be funded.”
For its part, Moscow has repeatedly stressed that financial support for Kiev and the pumping of weapons to Ukraine will obstruct settlement negotiations, and will only contribute to prolonging the conflict. The Russian Foreign Ministry also indicated that any shipments containing weapons to Kiev would be a legitimate target for the Russian army. (Russia Today)
